Bacn (pronounced bacon) is an e-mail term used to describe e-mail that is somewhere between the world of Spam and personal e-mails. It is usually defined as "e-mail that you want, but not right now" examples would include notifications from social networking sites, RSS feeds, bills, etc. E-mail that you have chosen/signed up to receive but is also not personal.
The term was coined at the Podcamp Pittsburg 2 in 2007 and has since caught on in the world of cyberculture (I hadn't heard about it until 2 hours ago, but so it goes). Bacn is becoming ever more prevalent in our inboxes, Unsubscribe.com has claimed that in 2010 over 27 million bacn e-mails were sent daily.
In order to combat this phenomenon Google has just released an update to Gmail which allows your inbox to be analyzed and your bacn e-mails to be labeled as such. Other companies with e-mail software are also making efforts to help separate these messages from both Spam and your personal e-mail. Bacn is even becoming a focuses in the business world as advertisers and business owners try to maximize the efficiency and appeal of these messages.
